Week 3 with Rep. Matt MacPherson

Dear Friends and Neighbors,
We're now three weeks into the 2026 General Session, and things are moving quickly up on the Hill. As your representative for District 26, I've been working hard to advance practical legislation while making sure your priorities stay front and center in every committee hearing and floor debate. I'm grateful for the engagement and feedback I've received so far, and I'm committed to keeping you informed as we head into the busiest stretch of the session.

This week, several of my bills were officially numbered, HB 455, HB 487, and HJR 21. Getting a bill numbered is an important step in the legislative process, as it allows the proposal to be scheduled for committee hearings and begin moving toward a full vote. I'm looking forward to advancing each of these measures and continuing the work you've entrusted me to do for District 26.

My Bills Passed by the House

|
HB 82 passed the House unanimously this week and is now headed to the Senate for consideration. This bill updates the information required when filing a judgement lien against real property by limiting what must be disclosed to only the last four digits of an individual's Social Security number, the month and year of birth, and the driver license number. It strengthens privacy protections while keeping records accurate.
Another one of my bills, HB 392, also passed the House this week and is now on its way to the Senate. This bill creates a process for convening a three-judge district court panel when certain state entities or officials are parties to a civil case. It requires judges to be randomly selected from different judicial districts, outlines how the panel conducts proceedings and issues decisions, and gives the Utah Supreme Court exclusive appellate jurisdiction over the panel's rulings.

With the legislative session now well underway, I remain committed to representing District 26 with transparency, responsiveness, and a focus on practical solutions. Thank you for staying engaged and for continuing to share your perspectives, they truly guide my work. I'll keep you updated as key bills advance and new issues emerge. Together, we can make sure our district's voice remains strong at the Capitol.
Thank you,
|
