Hello << Test First Name >>,

I hope you are all doing well. With the conclusion of the general session, the Legislature’s work continues year-round. I wanted to share what we've been working on during the interim to keep you informed and involved in the legislative process. My goal is that you will understand how we are working to address issues important to District 26 and improve the lives of Utahns.

Thank you for your continued support and encouragement and please reach out with any questions or concerns you may have.
Convention Recap

I am grateful and honored to have earned the nomination for Utah House District 26 at the Salt Lake County Convention.

I did not have a Republican challenger in this race; however, meeting with delegates and participating in the caucus-convention process is important to me. I appreciate the dedication each delegate shows in representing their peers and neighbors. Having the opportunity to connect with so many of you at the convention and represent each of you at the Legislature is something I am truly grateful for.

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have. Hearing from you helps me better understand the needs of our community and tailor my legislative priorities to be most effective.

I hope to earn your vote in the upcoming General Election!

Come Join An Interim Meeting

Between sessions, we convene as legislators for interim meetings to begin the work for the next session. We meet together with our committees to understand and study the issues impacting our community and plan for the future.

Our meetings will begin on May 19 and 20, and will be held on the third Wednesday of each month for the remainder of the year (except for July and December). I serve on the following committees and will be in attendance at each meeting:
  • Government Operations Interim Committee
  • House Education Committee
  • House Government Operations Committee
  • Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Interim Committee
  • Public Education Appropriations Subcommittee
  • Rules Review and General Oversight Committee

The meetings are always open for the general public to attend in person or virtually. You can access the Zoom link and meeting schedule by visiting le.utah.gov. I hope to see you there!

White House State Leadership Conference

This month, I traveled with a group of Utah legislators to Washington, D.C., to meet with Cabinet officials and senior leaders in the Trump Administration.

We advocated for Utah priorities and worked to strengthen the partnership between our state and the federal government. These discussions focused on the real issues impacting Utah families: economic opportunity, responsible governance, support for veterans, foster care, innovation, and keeping our communities strong and secure. The administration is interested in supporting us as we work to support the American Dream in the state of Utah and help individuals and families flourish.

I am grateful for the opportunity I had to ensure Utah's voice is heard at the national level and collaborate with our Nation's leaders.
Highlighting Utah's Achievements

19 Years Leading With the Best Economic Outlook
This year, Utah was ranked as the state with the best economic outlook in the nation for the 19th consecutive year. This recognition is a reflection of the dedication and hard work of Utahns and a commitment to fiscal responsibility by the state. Utah has continually maintained a balanced budget and lowered taxes to foster an environment for growth. I am committed to fostering fiscal responsibility so that Utah can continue to lead the nation and support families.

The U.S. Forest Service is Coming to Utah
Salt Lake City has recently been selected as the new national headquarters for the U.S. Forest Service. This decision will bring U.S. leadership closer to the lands it is responsible for. Utah is home to an impressive 8 million acres of National Forest land, and this decision will allow local experts to influence and recommend how to manage the land. Utah stands ready to support this work and demonstrate the value of regionally grounded leadership.

Battling Inflation
As inflation continues to affect household budgets, the Legislature is working to reduce costs for Utah families. Over the past six years, the state income tax rate has been reduced from 4.95% to 4.45%, allowing taxpayers to keep more of what they earn. We’ve also expanded the Child Tax Credit, lowered the tax burden on Social Security benefits, and reduced the state gas tax to provide additional relief. By pairing tax cuts with responsible budgeting, we aim to ease financial pressure while maintaining essential services.

I am proud of what the Legislature was able to accomplish this past session, and am happy to be studying the issues most important to Utahns during the interim. Utah is an outstanding state because of the wonderful people like you.

I look forward to hearing from you and staying connected as we move towards the General Election.

Best,

Representative Matt MacPherson
Utah House District 26
