Week 6 with Rep. Matt MacPherson
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
As we enter the final week of the 2026 Legislative Session, I’m pleased to report that many of my bills have now passed both the House and the Senate and are on their way to the Governor’s desk for consideration. With just one week to go, I'm focused on finishing strong and making sure key priorities continue moving forward. Here’s an update on what happened this week at the Capitol.

This week brought strong movement across several of my bills. HR 4 House Rules Resolution Legislation Disclosure, HB 539 Public Safety Modifications, HB 487 Legislative Branch Amendments, and HB 455 Peace Officer and Dispatcher Standards Amendments all passed the House with unanimous support.
Several new bills were also officially introduced, including HB 604 Local Government Official Amendments, HB 601 Flavored Alcohol Amendments, HB 600 Utah Supreme Court Referendum Amendments, and HB 593 Bail Amendments, each aimed at strengthening local governance and refining key areas of state law.
We also saw important committee progress with HB 407 Public Education Information System passing the House Education Committee, and HB 136 Unlicensed Driver Amendments advancing through the Senate Transportation, Public Utilities, Energy, and Technology Committee. Together, these steps mark meaningful progress toward improving transparency, public safety, and government accountability across the state.

Legislation Preparing Utah for the 2034 Olympic Games
With the Olympics going on right now in Italy, I am happy to have a new piece of legislation introduced to help Utah prepare for our own Olympic Games in 2034. HB 581 Autonomous Vehicle Amendments updates Utah law to support autonomous vehicle deployment by modernizing key definitions and directing UTA and UDOT to gather information on large‑scale autonomous transit and safety considerations. It also creates the Autonomous Innovation Grant Program, allowing the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity to fund autonomous vehicle research, testing, and charging infrastructure. The Olympics is an exciting opportunity for our state to invest in public transportation, encourage innovation, and make sure Utah is ready for the future.

Welcoming Community Members to the House Floor
Having constituents join me on the House floor has been one of the highlights of this session. It’s a chance for community members to see the legislative process up close, experience floor debates, and gain a deeper understanding of how their voices shape the work we do. I’m grateful for everyone who has taken the time to join with me on the floor, whether to observe the work firsthand or to better understand how decisions are made on behalf of our community.
I’m grateful for everyone who’s reached out and shared feedback on the issues that matter most to our community. As we move into the final week of the session, I look forward to hearing from you and staying connected as we wrap up the work ahead. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, concerns, or thoughts you’d like to share.
Thank you,
