Week 2 with Rep. Matt MacPherson
Dear Friends and Neighbors,
Week 2 is in the books, and the session is officially in full swing. From early-morning committee hearings to floor debates and stakeholder meetings, my colleagues and I are hard at work helping to improve District 26 and the state of Utah as a whole.

Constitutional Court Amendments
This week, my bill HB 392, which seeks to create a new Constitutional Court, received a favorable recommendation from the House Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice Committee. This new court would feature three judges, selected by the Governor and confirmed by the Senate, who would have jurisdiction over challenges to the constitutionality of laws passed by the Legislature.
My goal with this bill is to foster faster, more consistent decision-making for challenges to laws, rather than bogging down the district courts. Check out this article by the SL Tribune to learn more.

Rep. Doug Fiefia's AI Safety Bill
This week, Rep. Doug Fiefia presented his bill, HB 286, before the House Economic Development and Workforce Services Committee. It was a special surprise to have actor Joseph Gordon-Levitt join him to speak in favor of the bill. While we differ greatly on policy, we found common ground on this issue: allowing the state to regulate AI to protect children and ensure transparency. And he is a phenomenal actor, let’s be honest.
